Design… We all know, as users of web & mobile apps, the importance of design and UI (user interface) in the making of user experience, which is basically what makes us use an app over and over again!

Couple of years ago, the idea or the concept of the app itself, was the main (if not the only) measure to rate an app! While today things have changed! No, like really really changed!

You can find today, BOOMING apps, that succeed and reached millions of downloads just because of a good design and UI, no concept innovation, same old functions, just better design! and it looks good!

Let me elaborate with examples:

Instagram:

Instagram the popular photo sharing app, that have passed today 600,000,000 users, with huge number of active users, and the retro photos all over the web… why ? DESIGN BABY! DESIGN… UI… the interface that make you use that (Silly concept) app ! it’s the fluidity of the app!

Mailbox: (the email client)

Mailbox, as the name says, it’s a mailbox, have you imagined that a simple mail app can rise? we thought email clients apps were dead long time ago… Mailbox app have reached huge success, it even has waiting-list, which means you have to wait for your turn to start using the app, and this is result of huge usage… Why all this for a mail app? DESIGN BABY! It’s fluid, easy, simple, all soft angles, no sharp rectangles and ugly buttons, no complexity, clear colors, few views, and less settings, but, with more efficiency!
Just for information, this app is now worth more than 100Million$, why? DESIGN BABY!!

Flipboard: (The RSS revolution)

What electricity did to candles, Filpboard did to RSS!
Flipboard is a smooth RSS feed browser, with it’s great design and User interface, it made its way to millions of users, gently scrolling through categorized news (extracted from RSS feeds, twitter, and facebook)!
At first you login, choose the subjects that you like to keep up with, the just enjoy reading your news with the ability to share them quickly through social networks.
Flipboard is simply another example of a DESIGN success story.

As a conclusion, we can see that there’s no more space for a new EXTRAORDINARY idea, but there’s BIG space for enhanced ideas (design wise) with enhancing user interface and app fluidity… So if you’re a developer, think about some design courses and things will go perfect. If you’re a designer, learn programming, it will help. If you’re neither a designer or developer, ummm, well, learn both!!
